Raycell® Mk2

Short description

Raycell® Mk2 is an automated X—ray irradiation system for blood components designed to enhance the safety of transfusion therapy. The device is used to inactivate T-lymphocytes in blood components in order to prevent the transfusion-associated graft-versus-host reaction (TA-GVHD). The system provides uniform and controlled radiation exposure without the use of radioactive sources, which simplifies operation and radiation safety requirements.

Scope of application

  • Blood centers and transfusion stations
  • Transfusiology Services
  • Departments of Hematology and Oncology
  • Transplantation and clinical centers
  • Medical institutions with intensive transfusion practice

Purpose and functions performed

The Raycell® Mk2 is designed for:

  • irradiation of erythrocyte and platelet components of blood;
  • inactivation of T-lymphocytes to reduce the risk of TA-GVHD;
  • standardized treatment of blood components before clinical use;
  • documented and reproducible control of the irradiation process.

Key advantages

  • The use of X-ray radiation without radioactive sources
  • Uniform radiation dose distribution
  • Increased safety for staff and patients
  • Simplified installation and operation requirements
  • High reproducibility of processing results

Technological features

X-ray technology

  • X-ray generation with controlled radiation dose.
  • The use of two oppositely positioned X-ray tubes for uniform exposure to blood components.

Safety and security

  • Shielded radiation chamber to protect personnel.
  • A locking system that prevents access to the camera during exposure.
  • Automatic cessation of radiation when the power is turned off.

Management and control

  • Intuitive control panel.
  • Support for recording radiation parameters and cycles to ensure traceability.

Who is it intended for

  • Blood centers and transfusion services
  • Clinics working with immunocompromised patients
  • Departments of Hematology, Oncology and Transplantology
  • Medical institutions focused on a high level of transfusion safety

Compliance with standards

  • Meets the requirements of transfusion medicine for the prevention of TA-GVHD
  • Supports the safety standards of medical equipment for X-ray systems
